Homework Policy - Stanley Middle School.
The Alvord Unified School District Homework Policy specifies that middle school students should have approximately one and one-half hours of homework each night. Students will be expected to keep a daily record of all class and homework assignments and obtain a parent’s signature Monday through Friday. All homework must be turned in on time.Beginning in 2014, our Leadership Team and our staff have been working on developing a homework policy that would clarify the purpose, expectations, and roles of homework at Stanley. During this process we looked at the latest research about homework, and what many similar Middle Schools had in place.Homework Policy In an effort to reduce student stress and respond to the evolving instructional practices, SRVUSD convened a committee of teachers, students, parents and school administrators to recommend updates to SRVUSD homework policy and regulation. The committee considered and made changes related to: Limiting the overall volume of homework.
The High School teaching administration and staff considers the practice of homework as one of the vital means by which students can better learn the required material in each curriculum area. The prime responsibility of homework belongs to the students themselves.The school policy for homework was developed and agreed by the whole staff and has the full agreement of the Governing Body. The policy was approved and ratified by the Governing Body during the Autumn Term 2014 and is regularly reviewed.
A homework policy is given to parents which outlines the content and expected length of time to be spent on homework. These policies are amended annually by the class teachers to reflect current practice.
